Your Usual, Sir ?



Still in shock from the realisation that I'd missed Ian Fleming's Dr No on the wireless this arvo (David Suchet as the twisted Dr No) I have taken treatment in the form of woodsmoke and wine. A crisp, cold Viognier has taken care of the cooking with a sturdy Chilean Cabernet to cut the fat - marvelous.
Fried garlic and new potatoes on the fire along with cob-corn (cooked wrapped in foil with butter, salt and pepper)and a bit more of Mary's hogget really did the trick, Dr who ? Fresh-cut salad from the garden only helps to complete the heavenly feast. Very hot Provencal garlic rubbed into that toasted ciabatta, soaked in oil and sprinkled with salt keeps the thirst from waining and proves a great accompaniment to the Viognier whilst tending to the fire. Sorry to go on about it - BUT - that meat is something special and deserves attention. MORE FIRE !

twenty seven and a half hours downloading "real player" and drilling vent holes in the lap top I am now able to play again - marvelous - Dr No is now wafting out of something on my desk ......

Good man! Wine is wonderful here in Italy (in general), still cheap and delicious (in general), but try and buy a bottle of something foreign like viognier and you might as well whistle. So you Brits have something to celebrate in your vinous diversity - MORE WHITE WINE!

At the recent Devon Show, I saw a whole load of Leicester Blue Faces which I thought might have made very acceptable Barnsley Chops. I am inspired by this Blog to seek one out....

Diplo, where in God's name did you find that sunshine. this Bank Holiday weekend has been so foul I'm tempted to sell up and head south where the sun shines all day long and the wine is under £2 a bottle. I'll slowly decompose in a deck chair.

Another thing I've just noticed about Diplo's excellent photograph. Isn't it amazing how the chops have got stripes on them that exactly match the grille bars? Fascinating.

And I hope you have put the barbie tongs down long enough to race down to your local bookshop to snap-up a first edition of the new Bond book.
